Research Intern Program

Do real research. Get it reviewed. Get it published.

Fresh Start Financial research interns take on real questions about how households save, borrow, and plan. Every piece gets scored, written feedback, and accepted work is published on Fiona Insights under the intern's name, or anonymously if they prefer.

How applying works

  1. 01

    Apply

A written application: why you want the role, where you're headed, and how you would approach a research question. A resume is optional, and there's no interview.

  2. 02

    Hear back

Decisions go out by email on a rolling basis. If you're waitlisted, you'll get a final answer within 2 to 3 weeks.

  3. 03

    Start researching

Accepted applicants get a personal link to set up their research portal, then claim a first topic.

Latest research

Every paper carries its catalogue ident, its series, and its review status, so you always know what you are reading and who stands behind it.

How intern research gets published

Every paper in this catalogue came through the research intern program, and every one was reviewed before it published.

  1. 01

    Claim a topic

Interns pick a question from the topic bank or pitch their own. Once approved, the topic is theirs alone for four weeks.

  2. 02

    Research and submit

The finished piece comes in as a PDF, with a report of exactly where and how AI was used.

  3. 03

    Review

Yusuf Demircan, Head of Growth, scores every submission on a five-part rubric and sends written feedback: accept, revise, or decline.

  4. 04

    Publication

Accepted work is catalogued here with a permanent ident, credited by name or anonymously, as the intern chooses.

Courses built on the same research

Short courses taught by the coaching team and the research desk. The introductory material is self paced, the methods course runs as a cohort.
